Microbial Control and its Uses for Material Preservation

Microbial control technology is used extensively in products to protect them from microbial contamination that can result in spoilage, shorten their service life or in some way compromise their integrity.

The resulting decrease in energy and natural resource consumption has significant economic and social benefits. Making products better and longer lasting also contributes meaningfully towards sustainable production.

Biocides are frequently used for the short term preservation of raw materials during storage and transport, for in-can preservation – of paints for example – prior to use and for longer term preservation of articles during their life-time, such as for mold-resistant outdoor paints and adhesives, fabrics used for awnings, sails and tents, and for extruded plastics used to manufacture outdoor furniture.
