MCEC Newsletter – July 2023

JULY 2023

Dear readers,

As the summer approaches, we want to take a moment to update you on the developments within our Sector Group and share some news.

A few months ago we welcomed Pieter van der Hoeven as our new Sector Group Manager. With his extensive experience and deep understanding of the chemical industry, Pieter brings valuable insights and coordination to our team.

We are also glad to welcome a new member Thor, who joined our ranks in January. Their expertise will undoubtedly strengthen our efforts and bring us new perspectives.

With the objective of promoting our activities , we are happy to announce the launch of our new YouTube channel. This platform will serve as a hub for our latest videos, where we delve into the benefits of microbial control, including in healthcare applications. Through these insightful videos, we aim to shed light on the significant role that biocides play in safeguarding health, energy and the protection of materials.

With summer beginning, we are eager to embark on new ventures, and share further relevant content on the benefits of microbial control technologies to society.

Best regards,

José Mosquera (MCEC President)

We are pleased to announce the release of our YouTube channel and of our video that highlights the benefits of microbial control in healthcare applications. This informative animation sheds light on the pivotal role played by microbial control solutions in ensuring safety and well-being, including in public facilities and healthcare settings.

Microbial control technologies offer invaluable contributions to various healthcare domains. They aid in mitigating the risk of foodborne illnesses, and disinfecting surfaces in hospitals and public facilities, thus contributing to a healthier environment for all.

A solution to combat biofilm build-up in pipes

Did you know that biofilm build-up in pipes can lead to blockages, leaks and infrastructure damages? This is where microbial control solutions have a role to play.

Biofilms consist of colonies of bacteria and other microorganisms that grow on the inner surface of pipes. Biofilm build-up hardens the inner wall of the pipes and narrows their internal circumference. It is hard to determine where in the pipe this occurs, making it difficult to detect the issue and access it for cleaning by mechanical means. This can cause many problems such as blockages, leaks and spreading of germs, with a risk for public health.

By effectively eliminating biofilms, microbial control solutions improve pipe efficiency and durability, effectively reducing the need for costly repairs and preserving our infrastructure.

Preservatives protect your home from harmful organisms

Imagine taking your household detergent to clean your house and suddenly mould spores are floating on the surface of the cleaner. This is not only a nightmare for the end user, but also for the producers.

When it comes to ensuring and protecting the quality and safety of our everyday household products, preservatives play a crucial role for formulations. The right preservation solution protects the end users from potential health issues resulting from using contaminated products.

Moreover, by preserving against microbial contamination, they help extend the useful life of products and reduce waste, contributing to the sustainability of household products.

Use biocides safely. Always read the label and product information before use.
